The winter lime has been growing in Europe for 2000 years. The summer lime already existed 8000 years ago in Great Britain. Now one can find the lime tree in almost all countries of the northern hemisphere.There are two types of lime trees. The first is the summer lime, with its sweet-scented yellow flowers and long, parchment-like leaflets, and the winter lime, which flowers two weeks later with smaller leaves and more flowers. Both belong to the lime family (tiliaceae).
The inflorescences with the thin-skinned, wing-like bracts of both lime tree species. Immediately after flowering they are picked and dried.
