The hop (humulus lupulus) is a 3 to 6 meter high, perennial climbing plant. The male inflorescences are less conspicuous with small, whitish flowers. The large, female hop cones with their lupiline glands are used in medicine. The vernacular also calls it wild hops and hop cones.
In late summer, the cone-like structures (female fruit stands) of hops with their numerous glandular scales are harvested.
