All species of the coneflower have their home only in eastern and central North America.The coneflower (echinacea), also called "hedgehog heads", is a plant species of the asteraceae family. They are perennial herbaceous plants that reach a height of up to 140 centimetres. The upright stems are unbranched to branched. The head-shaped flower heads have a diameter of 1.2 to 4 centimetres and are pink to reddish purple in colour.
Parts used are dried roots and flowers.
